Costco Craving Curbed!

Hey All!

Hope you’re having a great day!

My posts have been slightly random lately due to the fact that I am in mid- move. I haven’t been able to cook as much as I’d like to since a lot of my stuff is packed up! I am moving in to my new place on May 1st, so my food and cooking experiments should resume once I’m settled 🙂

My trip to Costco was amazing… I seriously love going to Costco!

Here are some of my purchases:

My all time favorite crackers! Had to get 2 boxes!! I go through these like nobody’s business!

Some Amy’s Lentil Soup – Really like this soup!

Tru Roots Quinoa and a three bean mix that I haven tried yet!

Simply Natural Tomato Sauce:

My FAVORITE purchase! This HUGE tub of hummus!

Falafel Republic’s Falafel: I had to try this after reading Elise’s Review on these!

Almond Breeze of course!

Yummy Guac!

And Finally, some coconut water!

I love the prices at Costco! And their products.

Upon returning home, I made a lovely lunch with some of my Costco purchases!

Falafel, Hummus, Guacamole, Carrots, Crackers

The Falafel was really good flavor wise, a tad dry though, but that’s where the hummus and guac came in! Moistened those Falafels right up! Such a good lunch!

Sorry for the blurry pics! They were all taken with my phone so not the best quality!

What are your favorite Costco purchases?

Gibelotte

Gibelotte pronounced “jjjjjeeblut” (j sound like you would say Raj – you know, from the big bang theory) is a French word meaning rabbit stew with white wine.

But this post has nothing to do with rabbits, or white wine…(Unfortunate about the wine part 😉 I know)

The reason I call this post Gibelotte is because my mom uses the term when she just throws whatever is in the fridge in a pan and cooks it! This is what she calls a Gibelotte, not rabbit stew. She has never made rabbit stew in her life (thank goodness!) In fact, I didn’t even know a gibelotte was a rabbit stew until today! Learn somethin’ new everyday!

She is French Canadian, so maybe it’s a French term turned Quebecois slang,

Anyways, I was almost out of food the other day so I made my own “Gibelotte”…

I was pretty pleased, it turned out quite delicious!

Sauteed onions, mushrooms, frozen peas, and carrots.

Incomplete without some savory trail mix and ketchup on top of course!

I make what my mother calls “gibelottes” quite often. Salad gibelottes, stir fry gibelottes, smoothie gibelottes… It’s a great way to use up the last of your groceries. They all usually taste pretty good! (provided you don’t combine two completely wacky ingredients together)

Chocolate Mushroom Stir Fry Anyone? Sauteed Onion Smoothie?!… You get where I’m going.

Are you a meal planner? Or do you go to the kitchen, check out the fridge, then decide?! Or do you just not cook at all?

I’m curious! Let me know!

Have a wonderful Friday!

Meet My New Love, Mason.

Oh Mason, how I love thee.

The things I can say about Mason..

Jar that is.

I have a new found love for mason jars!

I have always loved jars of any kind, but there is just something so appealing about mason jars. They’re so retro, yet so chique, yet country… All at once! That’s versatility if you ask me!

Because everyone is moving out, we had this “stuff swap” room in my residence, where people bring clothes/books/stuff that they don’t want or need anymore. Whatever is in the room is basically a free for all!

Among a few other things, I found some lovely mason jars!

After a thorough washing- they were ready to go!

I’d like to introduce you to:

Steel Cut Oatie, a single bachelor looking for a companion…

And also, meet:

Rolled Oata, a bacheloroatte in search for a perfect partner…

Well, whaddaya know… One day, Rolled Oata and Steel Cut Oaty crossed paths and hit it off!

Now they live happily ever after in their humble pantry, creating beautiful children breakfasts almost every morning.

Such as this baby here:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Overnight Steel Cut AND Rolled Oats

Rolled oats combined with steel cut oats in overnight oat recipes create the perfect texture bound bowl of flavor infused breakfasts.

It’s my new favoroat combo!

In the mix for one serving: 1/4 rolled oats + 1/8 cup steel cut oats.

Try it, you’ll like it! Trust me, I know what I’m talking aboat.

Back to jars… Another nut butter jar bites the dust!

Bye bye hazelnut butter, it was nice knowing eating you! Till we meat again!

I don’t know if you recall me saying that I would gladly take on the challenge of trying to finish all my nut/seed butters before my big move… Well, I’ve been doing pretty well!

Do you remember this pic?

Well this is what I’ve got left:

+ some Tahini (which I forgot to add)

And they’re all nearing the bottom:

I don’t know if it’s something to be proud of that I’ve conquered almost all of my butters…

But, not gonna lie, I’m pretty proud!

Although, I do REALLY miss Almond Butter, it has been weeks since I’ve had any, and I CANNOT wait to go get some more! After I finish the cashew butter I will!

Out of all my nut/seed butter experiences, I have had the hardest time getting through the pretty small jar of cashew butter! I like cashews, but in butter form, it just isn’t my favorite! If I go buy almond butter or peanut butter before I finish the cashew butter…then I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it. And I. Must. Finish. It.

If I had to choose three butters that are a definite win and pantry/fridge essential in my book, they would be:

  1. This almond butter
  2. Organic creamy peanut butter
  3. Sunbutter
  4. Coconut Butter (Okay I had to choose four…couldn’t decide!)

Some other butters that I’m curious to try are Pecan Butter and Pumpkin Seed Butter!

Okay so enough with this butter jargon!

Here are some great illustrated ideas with all the things you can do with mason jars! The possibilities are endless!

Have a fantastic day!
